Ocracoke Island and Cape Hatteras

For our first trip out we decided to go on a lighthouse seeing and outerbanks tour, mainly since I've never been there. We got to see three of the major lighthouses and about 2/3 of the outbanks islands. We drove all around the Pamelico sound and over the intercoastal waterway. Plus we took a ferry over to the island. It was a blast!

Matthew and I at the Bodie Island Lighthouse.

Another view of the Bodie Island lighthouse to give you and idea of its height. And it isn't even the tallest lighthouse in North Carolina!

And, finally your basic straight-on view..

I'm standing at the top of the Cape Hatteras lighthouse which is the tallest lighthouse in NC and the only lighthouse which allows visitors to climb to the top for viewing. Man I look awful in this pic, lolol!

Looking up the shaft of Hatteras. There are 268 stairs in the lighthouse.

The first view of Cape Hatteras lighthouse over the trees.

Cape Hatteras lighthouse in its full glory.

A view on the waters of the Pamlico Sound.

We're relaxing in the car on the ferry ride to Ocracoke Island.

WELCOME!

It was an awesome trip and we had a blast! I just wish we could have spend the night and seen more of the fun shops and restaurants around the islands!
